Sal van Dijk (Amsterdam, 1993) conjures a vibrant and moist world of seemingly familiar images. Scenes inhabited by distressed figures, determined to find something akin to ‘geborgenheid’ (transl: feeling of security). His technique is characterised by thin oils and saturated pigments. Hinting at academic techniques and concurrently foregoing them. Originally educated as a car designer at TU Delft, his interest in painting started when he took a color harmony class in university. Ever since, he has been producing a new series of paintings each year, of which ‘esthetiek van het spooklichaam’ is his latest.
